Agreed
in reply to: An insulating profect going right! #36913Not knowing much here. Just observing after been around the track a few times that I am certain there is no free lunch.
2 x 6 rather than 2 x 4 studs on exterior walls is a no brainer if building new regardless of wherever you are building.
Each insulation material has plusses and minuses. If you can keep insulation dry cellulose is very appealing, e.g. in sunny dry AZ. But for Ben in the PNW, maybe not.

Went when it was in my back yard a few year back, that was fun. Lots of facial hair and interesting bikes. Bike nerd heaven.in reply to: Well…they’re not new cyclists anymore #36699Now that is a great ride. Enjoy!
A much much younger me owned a Colnago with Merckx decals, purchased from an Italian commercial pilot who bought it from a pro recouping a few Lire at the end of a season. Had a few small dings a quite a few paint defects from a year of pro racing. Stupid young me stripped the paint and repainted. Stripping the paint exposed the perfection of the brass braising and the exquisite lugs, but in hindsight, Oh the folly of youth!in reply to: Well…they’re not new cyclists anymore #36696so our first grandchild is in the oven. Good fitting cycling shoes are right up there other things this we value. A lot! Your foot shape is mainly genetic (hello grandma and grandpa) so don’t blame your parents unless that works for you but gotta say that’s hard on your parents. Bottom line: What is good for you is up to you. Please do keep an open mind, good riding shoes and other gear can enhance your riding.in reply to: Time for new shoes #36676Good fitting cycling shoes are right up there with (censored, censored) and especially the love of a good woman. Just my luck that that big S a few decades ago had my feet in mind back then, high arch, wide forefoot , narrow hindfoot. Big S ain’t no fool and realized that little old me and my phenotyptes would generate less moolaah than other foot shapes. Pavement and other. Just checking on where on you now. Our feet are different, blame your parents or grandparents if that works for youl. What that has to do with now is somewhere between nilch and who nows.Great quality, thank you Big S.
in reply to: Time for new shoes #36673SPD two bolts for the gravel bike. Been a while since I bought new shoes. Kinda like magic, I’ve managed to ride two pairs of shimanos and a Sidi into the ground all at the same time. The sidis were light and slick, but I loved big S’s shoes for fitting my high arch, wide forefoot and narrow hindfoot feet, and good power transfer, too. Not that I’m transferring much power these days, but efficiency is still a good thing, and I do much more pedaling than walking. That said, walking without risking major injury, i.e. real rubber soles is a major plus. Shimano is still high on my list based on decades of comfortable fit and top quality. And this rider appreciates subtle, don’t look at me shoes. Shimano 701 maybe? Any and all advice appreciated.
