SPD two bolts for the gravel bike. Been a while since I bought new shoes. Kinda like magic, I’ve managed to ride two pairs of shimanos and a Sidi into the ground all at the same time. The sidis were light and slick, but I loved big S’s shoes for fitting my high arch, wide forefoot and narrow hindfoot feet, and good power transfer, too. Not that I’m transferring much power these days, but efficiency is still a good thing, and I do much more pedaling than walking. That said, walking without risking major injury, i.e. real rubber soles is a major plus. Shimano is still high on my list based on decades of comfortable fit and top quality. And this rider appreciates subtle, don’t look at me shoes. Shimano 701 maybe? Any and all advice appreciated.

I always buy Shimano’s as I know how they fit. Wish they had a big bike shop in my area so I could try on different brands.

I’m no help here….haven’t bought new MTB shoes in ~20 years (dead serious). Both pairs I have from then are still in great shape – one pair of electric blue SHimanos w/ carbon soles and a super-comfy pair of Answers.

Good fitting cycling shoes are right up there with (censored, censored) and especially the love of a good woman. Just my luck that that big S a few decades ago had my feet in mind back then, high arch, wide forefoot , narrow hindfoot. Big S ain’t no fool and realized that little old me and my phenotyptes would generate less moolaah than other foot shapes. Pavement and other. Just checking on where on you now. Our feet are different, blame your parents or grandparents if that works for youl. What that has to do with now is somewhere between nilch and who nows.Great quality, thank you Big S.

Good fitting cycling shoes are right up there other things this we value. A lot! Your foot shape is mainly genetic (hello grandma and grandpa) so don’t blame your parents unless that works for you but gotta say that’s hard on your parents. Bottom line: What is good for you is up to you. Please do keep an open mind, good riding shoes and other gear can enhance your riding.

I have wide feet (EEEE). About 6 years ago, I got a mountain bike to ride in Vermont’s North East Kingdom while attending a family wedding. I bought Shimano MO88 shoes to go with the SPDs. They’re very comfortable and still in great shape. Apparently they are no longer available.

I’ve been using Sidis forever. They have the “mega” sizes now, which are wider, although I don’t use them. I do use drugstore arch inserts with good effect.
