Maybe that’s cause you are Casey Stengel whoever that is.

Some good early season pace lining and climbing smack down today. Followed by a triple brewery visit. Yikes.

Going to Northern Italy at this point should be a hard no. It’s a very fluid situation with too many unknowns. Really sucks but it is what it is. Containment is key which means limiting travel to and from at risk areas.

Watching the tour still ranks as one of my most disappointing life experiences ever.

Wanted to watch on the Madeleine somewhere in 80s. We arrived late and didn’t get up hill (walking) very far. Hours of commercial caravan. Then the peloton came by, woosh, and they were gone again.

Flanders with double passage on circuit and one passage of women, plus beer and big screen was far superior.

You can get up and back down in just a couple hours and still look at the lavender.

A full day allows ascents on two sides with some time to spare.

The Nice area is very nice. Will be a good trip.

He looks good and is motivated.

Doubt he’ll be able to manage his Achilles heel the itt though.

As I improve the rest of the house, the furnace spends more and more time napping. My room gets colder and colder.

You’ve basically by accident created a beer/wine cellar to keep the beverages cool.

And in wartime, this is where you can store your potato stash and keep it from going bad prematurely.

    They held this again today.

120kph winds. Toppled trees. Race was 10k against wind on single speed Dutch bikes.

    LSD…gramps!

Smokey – yes 6 years on. Not too many family rides anymore with the 16yr olds although we did a ton of riding in NL over three weeks in NL last summer.

One of them rode quite a bit on one of my old road bikes two years ago but is currently 100% into running. Weekly distances 95-110 kms, more than I ride at moment.

The other one isn’t into aerobic stuff but looking for a gig as swim instructor & life guard.

A year out from university (sciences most likely); we actually did a tour of U Victoria last weekend.

I’m 5yrs out from semi-retirement (at 60) and 8 from full retirement (when my wife hits 60 and gets her full pension). The succession planning at work has started.

And I repossessed the bike I gave my kid. Rode it last weekend. It will become the winter road bike again as the Diverge will make its next transformation to a full-on gravel bike, dropping 4 teeth on front rings with new GRX crankset and adding four 4 teeth in back, plus properly wide tires, in anticipation of some kick add rides.

LSD I actually inserted my opinion on 2020 stage 2 in post above. Both could be disruptive in very different ways and with very different proponents. Vague enough? Edit, actually this years stage 2 may be tailored for our favourite frenchie alaphillipe.

Ben is one year ahead of us. The 2021 tour starts in Denmark. Keep that thought Ben LOL.

The 2020 tour starts in Nice right where we had our Haute Route Alps grand depart (Icarus edition). It could still blow apart on stage 2 which is mountain stage but QS may be off the back.
    Giro in Hungaria
Vuelta in my student hometown Utrecht NL

Watched a couple stages live post-dinner (very civilized compared to usual 6am rise needed to watch Euro cycling). I invested in ExpressVPN, mostly because I don’t like to listen to Phil babble and prefer Sporza coverage which is georestricted.

In this case Sporza didn’t carry coverage (probably because of time difference) so I pretended to be in Melbourne and got an Aussie HD stream on my big screen TV with Robby and Jens arguing about whether catch was going to be made in that last stage. Robby >> Jens.

The only thing I need to figure out his how to “sideload” Chrome browser on my Sony Android TV because the VEWD browser is fairly hopeless. Other than that we have a winning setup.

Aussie commercials are funny but there’s still too many of them.

104kph head wind. I actually biked over this a couple times. Even on a calm day it’s windy there.

But that’s nothing compared to this

Better get used to it. Longish winter warm stretches interspersed with sudden polar vortex snaps will become the new normal out east.

Out west it’s a pretty normal winter so far (fall was much drier that usual though), right now we’re digging out from a couple winter storms. Finally the local ski hills have a good snow pack. Next week it’s back to rain at least at sea level. Spring end of Feb is around the corner.
