in reply to: RIP to Colnago (the brand, not Ernesto!) #36580
Dude will be 93 in 5 years.
If he didn’t find a proper successor it would have been a crap shoot one way or the other.
in reply to: Ping Webmaster #36710Hit “my profile” on dark blue menu bar op top rightmost item.
Hit “profile settings” in lighter blue menu bar.
That should take you to your page where you can set and confirm password. At least that is what I’m seeing.
in reply to: Ping Webmaster #36707Lol.
The only person that knows the webmaster is Keith. We previously used that route when it seemed the forum had vanished in thin air.
in reply to: RIP to Colnago (the brand, not Ernesto!) #36577Yes, a lot of life changes and I take it no one ready to take over the reigns.
Like knitting skills, handcrafted frames are bound to disappear over time.
Y’all could still try and get a Groenewegen frame (formerly of Zieleman fame). Dylan may pick up the reigns from his father, grandfather and the generation before that if he can’t bike race anymore.

Depends on where you are riding, but if you are near no one, a mask does nothing. Masks make sense for people close to each other, or indoors.I just saw a photo of Gesink on his first training ride in Andorra now that they are allowed outside, wearing a mask on a col with no one around. Totally ludicrous. Glad that British Columbia is continuing on its no nonsense path, focusing only on those initiatives that actually make a difference. Most successful pandemic response in all of North America to date based on the important metrics. A highly qualified team here leading the charge on the basis of science.
in reply to: RIP to Colnago (the brand, not Ernesto!) #36574It really depends on whoever is behind the investment. It could also mean more financial leeway for Colnago to focus on quality products without having to worry about underlying financial bottom line. Time will tell.
Same group that sponsors UAE Emirates team.
in reply to: What mask do you use? #36497Solo rides are the best.
That’s how I started as a teen. “Bye mom – I’ll see you tonight”.
Group rides are OK but I am so used to solo rides I never talk very much during. Only when we get to the post-ride beer part.

in reply to: If your velo handle is based upon your past bike…. #36717This is why my handle is based on a soda that will be an eternal favourite.
But maybe I should change it to Orange Sloth cause I haven’t crushed anyone in a while.
in reply to: Merlin Cycles Ltd, beware! #36591How is it possible to have to (near) identical brand names in more or less same line of business? Someone didn’t do their job shutting the online brand down. I could certainly see confusion here and potential for negative impact.
maybe the online store even chose that name intentionally to have pretence of quality?
in reply to: The Ride of the Hard Man – interview w/ Hinault #36386Not long after Hinaults exploit I rode the cyclo version of LBL one year. It was 4 degrees above freezing with drizzle all day. Maybe this is what LSD means by Euro wet.
Unlike Hinaults DS who told him to drop the rain jacket they kept asking me if I wanted one. I killed it on Redoute that year dropping the other five in our group followed by a very cold long solo descent into the outskirts of Liege. My dad came along all day in the support van.
Kidding aside I don’t remember Hinaults ride even though cycling was very much on my radar. Maybe an 80k solo while impressive was also boring to watch for a 17 year old. Did they even have good coverage given the conditions?
in reply to: cleaning the chain #36624in reply to: cleaning the chain #36622Now I’m curious about that Euro wet. Apparently Euro has some redeeming qualities but we had a European barista in our office once and quite frankly the brews it produced were terrible. I would say undrinkable.
I seem to recall we had some petrol based stuff to clean our greasy hands (that’s probably why we have that peculiar smell) but don’t recall using it on bike chain. Anyway KMC recommends taking it easy on degreasers and the like or at least not soak your chain in it. They should know a thing or two about chains.
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36423Here’s the case on that earlier point. Still only the end of the beginning. Events should not get their hope up this year.
in reply to: Paging CK, TT geek talk #36839Just make sure you don’t pull a CK and have those clip ons rattle off your handlebars.
The gift that keeps on giving lol.
