in reply to: Strade Bianche, Sea Otter cancelled due to COVID19 #36364
Thanks….he was actually the Mayor of Lodi when the ToC rolled through town a few years ago. Was always interesting to hear his stories about some of the behind-the-scenes stuff.
in reply to: Strade Bianche, Sea Otter cancelled due to COVID19 #36362I was in no way saying people were over-reacting….it is a serious health threat, not just because of the relatively high death rate, but because of the ease with which the virus seems to spread….and worse the fact that is seems to spread while you are non-symptomatic.
Take a bunch of people, cram them together and have riders interacting with them…..and some of those riders have clearly been exposed to the virus (Gaviria has actually tested positive for it).
I know everyone is trying to figure out what “real” mortality rate is, but the numbers, for the time being, speak for themselves….it is ~3% of documented cases. Hell, in the US, it is closer to 10%….at least for now.
I have to fly through SFO and then drive up to Lodi next week and I would really rather not go, but it is a funeral for my uncle, so…..
in reply to: Strade Bianche, Sea Otter cancelled due to COVID19 #36358Tirreno-Adriatico, Paris-nice and Milan-San Remo likely to follow…. Worse, the entire Classics campaign could be threatened now. Reports of a cluster of COVID19 in Wevelegem, basically ground Zero for the Classics.
in reply to: I feel like Casey Stengel some days #36527I’m also guessing the non-tubeless tires are a few grams lighter and more supple at the same cost level,
The newest tubeless tires have the best rolling resistance of ANY tire, tubed, tubular or tubeless. GP500 TL and the Vittoria Corsa Speed 2.0 are ridiculously fast.
And I don’t even wann think about what that bunny-hop landing would look like.
in reply to: I feel like Casey Stengel some days #36524one of the guys running tubeless on non-tubeless tires (gravel set up, 45mm tires, who knows what PSI)
NEVER NEVER do this…..you can make a MTB wheel tubeless because of the low pressures involved, but you are only asking for pain and suffering (as this guy found out) if you do it on a road bike. Between the different bead styles (crochet vs. non-crochet) and no firm tire / rim standard, setting up a non-tubeless road wheel for tubeless is just dangerous.
in reply to: I feel like Casey Stengel some days #36521Riding safe,y and cohesively in a group is a dying art form.
in reply to: Mosconi and Ineos (again) #36451Fire him.
Now.
But it is Ineos, so they won’t.
in reply to: Velovirus????? #36554My uncle passed away this week and he lived in NorCal (was actually the mayor of Lodi for a while).
Really don’t want to go out there for his services given what is going on out there, but…..*shrug*
Sorry about postponing your trip, mondonico, but probably the right choice.
in reply to: Velovirus????? #36545Last 2 stages if UAE Tour cancelled due to 2 italian riders testing positive for COVID19.
Milan-San Remo and Strade Bianche will get cancelled shortly…..followed by the Olympics.
OUr factory is still only at ~50% staff. Too many workers simply can’t get back to the factory because they are either in a quarantined area, or would have to travel through a quarantined area to get there. Tens of thousands of factories are facing the same thing.
Watch what happens when people can’t get things like electronics, furniture and medicine. This has the potential to make 2008 look like a mild market correction.
in reply to: Velovirus????? #36540Oh man….I hope it works out for you. Sounds like an awesome trip.
Unfortunately, I think this crisis is far from receding. I don’t think people grasp how serious the situation is, both medically and economically.
in reply to: Hope spring eternal #36463Quintana will do what Quintana does….lose time early and be so far back that no one chases him when he goes on a break and wins a stage. And then everyone will marvel about how he could challenge for the win in some July in the future.
Lather, rinse, repeat….we know who he is as a rider at this point. It isn’t going to change now.
in reply to: Well…they’re not new cyclists anymore #36697Congratulations, LSD!!!!
Best wishes to your growing family!
in reply to: Mathieu Van der Poel’s Canyon #36783Canyons are the ugliest bikes out there imo, no contest, but they win races.
Hey now…my Aeroad is a damn good looking bike!!!
And the new, unreleased version seen under MVP is even better with the new hidden cable layout.
in reply to: Mathieu Van der Poel’s Canyon #36777Pinarello’s look like someone left them in the oven for too long…..they are ugly, heavy and aerodynamic as bricks. I laugh everytime Ineos / Sky talks about “marginal gains” but they continue to ride those monstrosities.
I kinda dig the Canyon CX bike……don’t have an issue with the seat tube / top tube intersection.
