“Trott Stage” between home town of Cheshunt and first race venue in Welwyn Garden City

laura trottThe Women’s Tour, the sister event to the men’s Tour of Britain, has confirmed the locations of its third and fourth stages, which will take place in the south eastern counties of Essex and Hertfordshire. Stage three will be based around the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea, while stage four will run from Cheshunt – the hometown of cycling sisters Emma and Laura Trott – to Welwyn Garden City – the town where they began their cycling careers, and where elder sister Emma was born.

“Having a UCI Women’s Tour in the UK is brilliant, but to have a stage starting in my home town of Cheshunt and then finishing in Welwyn Garden City where I started racing makes it even better,” said double Olympic champion Laura. “I think this will be a very special day for me, I just hope the other girls let me win!”

The inaugural edition of the five-day race will run between May 7th and 11th next year, with its “Grand Depart” in the picturesque Northamptonshire market town of Oundle. That opening stage will finish in the county town of Northampton, while the second stage will run between Hinckley, Leicestershire, and Bedford.

“We are very pleased to be able to announce the locations for stages three and four of The Women’s Tour and are delighted by the support we have received from stakeholders in both Essex and Hertfordshire,” said Guy Elliot, from race organiser SweetSpot.

“We are now working hard to secure the commercial sponsorship required for the event, which will be a fantastic marketing opportunity for brands who want to associate themselves with world-class athletes and our Olympic heroines.”
