Amsterdam Six: Live video coverage from day four

Watch tonight’s action hereThe big battle in Amsterdam continued yesterday with yet another change in leadership in the race. Dutchmen Nick Stöpler and Yoeri Havik (AA Drink) jumped from third to first overall with some great racing, overhauling previous leaders Leif Lampater (Germany) and Raymond Kreder (Netherlands) and opening an eight point advantage. Stöpler and Havik had been one lap behind but managed to get that back and also to increase their points total to 135; Lampater and Kreder ended the day on 127, while ICS Visa duo Pim Ligthart (Netherlands) and Marcel Kalz (Germany) moved to third with 102 points. Monday’s leaders Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke (Deelen Verswaren) have the highest points total on 140, but have dropped to fourth place as they are a lap down. Watch tonight’s action hereAfter Monday’s big battle in the Amsterdam Six which resulted in Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke (Deelen Verswaren) opening a one point lead over Dutch rivals Nick Stöpler and Yoeri Havik (AA Drink), things changed around yesterday when Boretti duo Leif Lampater (Germany) and Raymond Kreder (Netherlands) bounced back from third. Starting the day ten points behind, the duo ended the racing at the same deficit, but succeeded in gaining a lap. This thrust them into pole position over De Ketele and Van Hoecke, with Dutch rivals Nick Stöpler and Yoeri Havik (AA Drink) sitting third. Watch the battle on the boards as it plays outYesterday’s opening day of the Amsterdam Six saw a ferocious battle between the Belgian pairing of Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke (Deelen Verswaren) and Dutch rivals Nick Stöpler and Yoeri Havik (AA Drink). The tussle between them and the other riders raged in front of the passionate Dutch crowd, with De Ketele and Van Hoecke eventually ending the first day just one point ahead. Boretti duo Leif Lampater (Germany) and Raymond Kreder (Netherlands) ended up third, ten points off the leaders. They and fourth placed duo Jens Mouris and Wim Stroetinga (Vlasman) gained at least one lap over the other nine teams in the race but with five more days left, there’s plenty of racing yet to take place and everything can change. A tour of African team’s headquarters in Lucca, Italy Racing against WorldTeams with far larger budgets, Team MTN Qhubeka had a fine season in 2013 and clocked up victories in a range of events. The African outfit notched up thirteen such wins, with Gerald Ciolek acting as David against the Goliaths in Milan Sanremo, and also picking up stage wins in the Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen, Bayern Rundfahrt, the Tour of Austria and the Tour of Britain. Sergio Pardilla notched up a stage in the Volta Portugal, Jay Thomson won the South African national championships, while Tsgabu Gebremariam Grmay earned gold in the Ethiopian road race and time trial championships and also took a stage in the Tour of Taiwan. The team’s other winners were Tour de Korea stage victor Kristian Sbaragli and Ignatas Konovalovas, who became Lithuanian time trial champion. The team stepped up a level this season in [...]

Video: Roche pushing for Team Saxo Bank to allow him to start 2014 Giro d’Italia in Ireland

“I expressed clearly my feeling and my demand to the team…I hope that I will get a favourable response”Responding to the unveiling of the 2014 Giro d’Italia route, Nicolas Roche has made clear that he is determined to take part in the race and will lobby the Saxo Tinkoff team to ride. Roche wants to grab the opportunity, being motivated by the fact that the first three days will be held in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Day one is a 21.7 kilometre team time trial starting and finishing in Belfast, while stage two also begins and concludes in that city, but takes the riders on a 218 kilometre road race stage. Day three crosses the border en route to Dublin from Armagh, a 187 kilometre north-to-south trek which will bring Roche back to the city where he spent much of his childhood.
