Video: Ellen van Dijk on TTT worlds triumph, Specialized lululemon, 2013 goals and Vos’ character

Multiple world champion speaks She’s won world titles on the track in the past but the rainbow jersey Ellen van Dijk picked up in September may well be the most memorable of her career. It was her first such triumph on the road, it was taken with her Specialized lululemon team-mates and, best of all, it happened on home soil in Valkenburg, the Netherlands. Van Dijk was one of a squad of riders who scooped gold in the first-ever time trial championships for trade teams, beating closest rival Orica AIS by 24 seconds. The race was a major target for them and in achieving their goal, the sense of satisfaction was considerable. “2011 was a really important year, of course, with the Olympics, but also the world championships going on the Netherlands,” the blonde Dutchwoman told VeloNation in a video interview conducted at the Specialized lululemon training camp in southern [...]

Video Interview: Evelyn Stevens discusses best season yet, women’s racing and 2013 goals

Flèche Wallonne winner describes breakthrough success, and how beating Vos has affected her mentality April 18th, 2012. Evelyn Stevens and Marianne Vos are side by side with approximately 400 metres to go in the women’s Flèche Wallonne race, with a wilting Linda Villumsen (GreenEdge-AIS) and Lucinda Brand (AA Drink-Leontien.nl) beginning to lose contact. Rounding a steep bend Stevens guns it, making her move, but Vos sweeps by and opens a gap as the road begins to flatten out just before the line. The daylight between them makes it look like it’s game over but Stevens persists and continues to fight. Gradually, inch by inch, the Specialized lululemon rider stubbornly claws Vos back, draws alongside and edges past her before the line. It was a perfect pacing strategy, a masterful display of chess, and earned her the biggest result of her career. For Vos, it was one of the biggest disappointments. [...]

“This is the most crucial time in cycling’s history”Confirmed today as America’s only Tour de France winner after Lance Armstrong was disqualified from his seven Tour successes, Greg LeMond has reacted by focussing on cycling’s future rather than dwelling on the past. The former pro has long been outspoken about the need for clean racing and was one of the first to raise concerns about Armstrong’s work with the notorious doctor Michele Ferrari. LeMond recognises that cycling is reeling after one of its biggest names was exposed, and is clear about how important this moment is. “It is the most critical time in cycling’s history,” LeMond told VeloNation, giving an exclusive video reaction to the UCI’s press conference during a trip to Ireland. “It is not another Festina, it is not just another scandal. It is the time. “We had the chance [for real change] in 1998 but the sport [...]
