Video: US champion Duggan back racing after injury, pleased with recovery
American rider set out targets for 2013, starting with national title defenceThe US national road race champion Timmy Duggan has made a rapid recovery from the injuries he suffered in the Santos Tour Down Under, and has returned to competition this week in the Presidential Tour of Turkey. Duggan fell heavily on stage three of the Australian race and sustained fractures to his leg and shoulder. Although that was three months ago, he is already back racing and is pleased at his progress. “It was not really the debut I wanted, to start the season at the Tour Down Under in a crash and breaking my leg and my collarbone,” he told VeloNation in the video interview below, carried out prior to the start of stage three of the race. “But I have had a really good, smooth recovery. Things are coming back, both in how my leg is feeling [...]
Tour of Turkey Video: Greipel in press conference after stage five victory
German rider wants his key supporting riders in the TourClocking up his second sprint victory of the race, André Greipel has once again shown that he is climbing very well at present, particularly for a rider of his musculature. The Lotto Belisol rider finished in a select group into Turgutreis on Thursday, winning a gallop to the line ahead of Matteo Trentin (Omega Pharma Quick Step), Nikias Arndt (Argos Shimano) and 47 others. Speaking to the media at the post-podium press conference, Greipel spoke about the difficulty of the stage and also how he was able to remain to the fore while many other sprinters lost contact. “It split up from the start directly,” he said, referring to the opening climb which came very soon after the start in Marmaris. “After five kilometres there were about 50 riders and on the long climb, everybody put a bit of pressure on. [...]

Video: Hansen aims to finish all three Grand Tours again in 2013
Australian rider Lotto Belisol’s GC hope today in Presidential Tour of TurkeyFor the second year in success, Adam Hansen hopes to complete all three Grand Tours in the same season, thus solidifying his place in a very select group of cyclists. Less than 40 riders in the history of the sport have finished the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in the same season. Last year Hansen was the only one to achieve the feat and, undeterred by the difficulty of the task – or perhaps feeling sufficiently masochistic – he confirmed to VeloNation that it is his intention again. “It is actually my schedule again this year,” he said in the video interview below. “We will see how it goes…it is very difficult.” Hansen is currently racing in the Presidential Tour of Turkey and will today aim to put in a big performance for [...]
Video: Meyer intent on fighting for Tour of Turkey GC as race heads into mountains
Australian talent talks about disrupted early season, upcoming targets and potential Tour debutHe hasn’t raced much this year but Cameron Meyer is hoping that today’s crucial stage in the Presidential Tour of Turkey will go well for him and put him in position to challenge for the overall classification. The Australian was upbeat when he spoke to VeloNation prior to the start of the race, saying that he feels his condition is good enough to perform despite that relative lack of competition. “I think it’s possible to go well here,” he said in the video interview below. “I think it is a good race to start back with. Sarthe gave me a bit of intensity before here. Obviously it is still a bit unknown as to where I am at, but training has been going well and we will see how I go on stage three – that is going [...]
Andre Greipel video: Turkey race leader relieved to avoid big crash, wants stage wins
German set to lose turquoise jersey todayAndre Greipel may have taken over as race leader on yesterday’s second stage of the Presidential Tour of Turkey, but the German accepts that his tenure in the turquoise jersey will be a brief one. Today’s third stage of the race heads to the summit of the arduous Elmali climb and the 1820 metre climb is sure to be Greipel’s kryptonite. “On the day before a mountain stage, it doesn’t mean much,” he said after the stage, “but to take the green jersey back to Istanbul, yes, it’s feasible.” Having travelling to Turkey, Greipel was hit by the news that his grandmother had passed away. He decided to stay in the race and doubtlessly would like to dedicate a stage win to her. After netting second to Marcel Kittel on stage one, he was motivated to perform yesterday. However he very nearly came down [...]
