Johan Vansummeren is heading from the Belgian Silence-Lotto team to Garmin-Slipstream team for 2010. There was speculation as to whether the American team could afford to keep Bradley Wiggins and hire the versatile Belgian rider.

Vansummeren, who at 6 foot 5 inches towers over the peloton, has the ability to ride well in the Spring Classics, finishing top 10 in the last two editions Paris-Roubaix, and will also add more depth in the mountains for Garmin’s Tour squad.

Quick-Step was also interested in signing the 28-year-old, but Vansummeren chose to head to the team led by former professional cyclist Jonathan Vaughters.
