Team Quick-Step’s Kevin Van Impe won’t be taking the start line in this weekend’s Belgian National Championship.

The winner of the Dwars door Vlaanderen 2009 is recovering from an injury to the vastus medialis muscle of his left leg, which saw the rider unable to fully capitalize on his excellent form during first part of the season.

“The situation is definitely better,” explained Van Impe. “This week I worked out every day on my home trainer. I pedalled for a maximum of one hour. I feel good, like I’m getting better day by day, albeit slowly. On Monday I’ll start training on the road. They’ll be short runs, about an hour and a half at the longest. At the end of next week we’ll evaluate the situation.”

The Belgian will now work towards getting his condition back for a strong close to the season.
