Jan Ullrich visited Eufemiano Fuentes two dozen times between 2003 and 2006. The BKA (German FBI) revealed the extent of Ullrich’s treatment, according to information obtained by the Spiegel news magazine.
Between February 2005 and May 2006, Ullrich flew to Madrid eight times, organized by Rudy Pevenage, the personal coach of Ullrich.
Pevenage was in Madrid a total of 15 times between December 2003 and April 2006. The BKA is convinced the visits were in connection with the doping network. Pevenage doesn’t deny five to six travels a year to Madrid, but says they contacted Fuentes to help Ullrich with his weight problems.
”It was to receive treatment for carrying too much weight, to drop from 84 to 76 kilogrammes in four weeks,” explained Pevenage.
Ullrich did not respond to those accusations. In 2008 he paid 250,000 euro to stop the law suit against him.
The BKA also detailed the amount of money paid to Ullrich in his active years between 2002 and 2006. Some of it Ullrich paid to Pevenage, who ran afoul with the Belgian tax system. Some of his stock was frozen and according to the Spiegel Pevenage had to pay back 130,000 euro already.
Ullrich was accused of being a Fuentes customer in 2006 and kicked out of the Tour de France just one day before the start in Strasbourg. Others who were sent home included Oscar Sevilla and Francesco Mancebo (today riding for Rock Racing), Ivan Basso (Liquigas), Joseba Beloki (retired) and Pevenage himself. Ullrich retired in 2007.
