ASO wants USADA and UCI to make their rulings

Tour de FranceLearning this morning that Lance Armstrong had decided not to contest the USADA charges against him, the organisers of the Tour de France have said that they are monitoring the situation and will bide their time before reacting further.

USADA’s CEO Travis Tygart confirmed to VeloNation last night that the agency would now strip Armstrong of his seven Tour titles and also hand him a lifetime ban.

The decision to remove those yellow jerseys is yet to be commented on by the UCI, which said today that it was seeking further details.

“The organisation of the Tour de France has taken note of the procedure taken against Lance Armstrong by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and will continue to closely monitor any new developments in this case.

“It is still waiting for important decisions to be taken by the competent authorities with responsibility for this matter, first and foremost of those being the USADA and the Union Cycliste Internationale, before making any further comments about it.”

Armstrong’s lawyers have threatened legal action if the titles are stripped but unless the UCI or another body takes a case opposing USADA to CAS, the disciplinary action looks set to go through.
