Cyclocross may be a little but smaller than road racing, but nothing is left to chance when it comes to the World Championships, which take place on Sunday, January 31, 2010, in Tabor, Czech Republic. The top rivals faced an unannounced doping control today, to make sure that at least those riders are clean.
Niels Albert, Sven Nys and Klaas Vantornout were visited by UCI doping controllers at around 18:45, Saturday evening, according to Sportwereld. All racers were visited in their room at the hotel where they are staying.
If other racers feel that the UCI doesn’t think they are capable of winning is not known, but the three riders were not the only ones tested during the Championships. Junior rider Tomas Papstrka was tested an hour and half before his race, which he promptly won. Tom Meeusen also had to provide a urine sample – after the race, in which he surprisingly missed a medal, ending the U23 race in fourth place.
Sanne Cant was also tested ahead of tomorrow’s women’s race.
