HTC-Columbia leader powers to another victory

Ina-Yoko TuetenbergHTC-Columbia powerhouse Ina-Yoko Teutenberg rode to her sixteenth win of the season today in a difficult stage two of the Giro del Trentino marked by heavy rain and several unclassified climbs.

The German proved she was the quickest in the sprint at the end of the 111 kilometer stage from Riva del Garda to Monzambano.  British rider Emma Pooley (Cervélo TestTeam) maintained her lead in the overall.

“The team did a great job keeping things together and then I was able to finish off their good work,” Teutenberg said afterward.  “It was a pretty nasty day, pouring down with rain and much hillier in reality than what the race profile indicated.  There were tons of attacks, but nothing really went away and it ended up being a bunch sprint.”

Teutenberg said the final kilometres of the stage were technical, but she was able to time her acceleration to perfection to out-sprint her rivals.  “Claudia Haussler attacked about 500 metres from the line, but Giorgia Bronzini pulled her back, and then I went for it with 200 metres to go.  It wasn’t the easiest of stages, so I’m pleased I could finish off the team’s good job and get the win,” she concluded.
