Team Barloworld’s Chris Froome took his first victory as a professional cyclist today in the 146.7km second stage of the Giro del Capo from Durbaville-Durbanville. Barloworld bookended second placed rider Jay Thomson (MTN) with third place going to Froome’s teammate Daryl Impey.

This makes two in a row after yesterday’s win with Robert Hunter leaving the team with a firm control of the race.

Claudio Corti , Team Manager commented, “Today I was concerned during the race because of the very hot temperature, this can make the race tough for even the strongest cyclists. Froome and Impey surprised me in the last climb as they were still looking very strong!”

The race became heated at kilometer 20 when a ten-man breakaway attacked on the first climb, a move that included eventual winner Froome and third placed Daryl Impey. They were able to quickly gain time on the the main group.

At 30km to go, Chris Froome attacked gaining with a gap of 1’25” on a chasing Nick White of Medscheme. The Barloworld rider was able to solo in for the win over 4 minutes in hand.
