Belgian champion will end his career with current team

sven nysSven Nys has committed himself to a further four years at his current Landbouwkrediet team, meaning that the Belgian Kannibaal will end his career with the green team. It was reported earlier this month that the Belgian champion had been offered he contract extension through 2014, but it now seems that he has put pen to paper.

“The negotiations were finalised on Monday afternoon, said Landbouwkrediet CEO Luc Versele, according to Sporza. “I am very pleased that he will close his career with us.

“First we have three good years ahead of us,” he added, on the subject of Nys’ retirement, “so let’s not think about the end.”

Nys has been with Landbouwkrediet since 2008, after having been with the Rabobank team for ten years. His new contract extension will take him through to March 2014, when he will be 37 years of age.

“I am pleased with the respect I’ve had from the team in this matter,” said 34-year-old Nys, according to De Staandard, not long before taking the start of the Superprestige race in Diegem. “I want to spend the rest of my career riding for Landbouwkrediet and I don’t want to spend that time having to worry about contract negotiations.”
