Australian’s attack rewarded with first season victory
Wesley Sulzberger took a solo win for his Française des Jeux team in today’s GP Plumelec-Morbihan. The 23-year-old had over 40 seconds against his closest rivals, Renaud Dion and Stéphane Augé.
Sulzberger was well prepared for the race. “I came from a hill climbing training camp, that certainly helped me,” he told Sporza after the race.
Congratulations quickly came from a compatriot on twitter, where Robbie McEwen wrote: “and congrats to Wes Sulzberger on his win in France today too!”
Sulzberger is the younger brother of Bernard and of Grace, who rides for the Australian Women’s National Team.
Wesley was riding for Southaustralia.com-AIS from 2006 and was a stagiaire at Française des Jeux in 2008. He has been with the French team since.
So far, he won stages in the Herald Sun Tour, the Giro delle Regione, the Tour of Japan and in Paris-Corrèze. In 2007 he became the Australian U23 champion and finished second in the U23 Worlds road race.
