Peter Kennaugh broke his collarbone when he crashed in today’s Montepaschi Strade Bianche Eroica race. Kennaugh went down after 90 of the 190 kilometers.
Kennaugh was immediately treated. “He’s in hospital now,” said Sports Director Marcus Ljungqvist after the race, according to Cyclingweekly. “It is bad news, but that is how it is. He’s a strong little guy, he’ll be back.”
Kennaugh crashed in the third of eight gravel sectors. The neo-pro is out just as teammate Kurt-Asle Arvesen is returning from his collarbone break.
The British team had a mixed experience in Italy. “It was both good and bad today,” said Ljungqvist. With Thomas Lövkvist in second and Juan Antonio Flecha in eighth, Sky placed two riders in the top ten. “The guys were really strong and showed they deserve to be up there. Thomas was second, which is good, close to the double [repeating 2009’s win] and Flecha is showing good form again.”
