Company wants a Tour contender riding their bikes
The new team from Luxembourg built around brothers Andy and Frank Schleck will be riding Trek bicycles. Trek confirmed they will be responsible for supplying all team cycling equipment at Eurobike today, but will also take on the role as day-to-day technical advisors and work closely with the squad.
“We looked at a number of equipment suppliers, but our goals are to win the Tour de France and be the #1 team in the World”, explained team General Manager Brian Nygaard. “We know Trek can help us go faster. Their expertise in aerodynamics and performance can make an appreciable difference in results. It is the right move to help the Schlecks and the whole team.”
Andy Schleck has finished second in the Tour de France for the past two seasons while riding bicycles made by rival American bicycle company Specialized. Alberto Contador won this year’s race while riding Specialized bikes, but has taken two of his three wins on machines built by Trek. All of Lance Armstrong’s seven Tour de France victories were won on Trek bikes, and he has been with the company for the past 13 years.
With Contador committed to arch-rival Specialized, Trek has opted to go with Contador’s likely biggest opponent Andy Schleck, and his brother Frank. They will also continue to sponsor the RadioShack team.
