Andy Schleck has made up his mind that he won’t be riding the Ronde van Vlaanderen in the near future. He initially put the race on his wish list, but ultimately decided it is too risky, due to the inherent dangers on the cobbled roads.

Schleck’s reasoning to add the race to his 2010 schedule was the Tour de France, where a pivotal section of cobbles would allow Schleck to get valuable time on rivals like Alberto Contador.

But Schleck had second thoughts on the plan. “Maybe it is a bit too risky,” he said to French paper Le Quotidien. “My first goal for 2010 will be Liège-Bastogne-Liège.” The latter race he won this year with a stunning solo ride.

Schleck is not ruling out the Ronde for good, though. “Maybe I’ll ride it in a few years,” he said.
