After contesting the Giro del Friuli, Andy Schleck of Saxo Bank used his personal Twitter account to give a status update regarding his injured knee.

“My first race today and I’m happy did good work ’til I pull out after 160, but my knee didn’t hurt only in the end a bit so that’s good,” posted Schleck.

The Giro del Friuli is a one-day race and is 190 kilometers long.

His comment at the end of his post suggested there is still some minor knee pain. However, Schleck didn’t seem too concerned.

Schleck is the 2009 Tour de France runner-up and is seen as a major contender for overall victory along with Alberto Contador in this year’s race.

Schleck’s knee injury first flared up in February which caused him to skip the Mallorca Challenge and alter his race calendar. His first race this year was today’s Giro del Friuli.

His next races are in Italy and includes the Monte Paschi, Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-San Remo. From there he toes the line at the Belgium semi-Classics: Dwars door Vlaanderen, E3 Prijs and Gent-Wevelgem. After these races he travels to Spain for the Vuelta al País Vasco and the Klasika Primavera. His final build-up before the Tour will be the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, where he is the defending champion.
