Reigning Olympic Road Race Champion Samuel Sanchez from the Euskaltel Euskadi team has sought out medical help for a recurring problem with his left knee. The rider injured it last year just before the start of Paris-Nice. The incident has forced the rider to adjust his training to prevent serious pain.
The injury causes swelling to the area on occasion, that is normally caused by long training sessions on the bike. He has been lowering his intensity to avoid complications, and now hopes that he can get the injury resolved for good.
After his consultation with doctor Mikel Sanchez in Oviedo, the cyclist said, “I am more relaxed after the tests. It has ruled out any serious injury that could significantly impede my preparations for the first goals of the year. Now I want to complete a good recovery process, to deal with the main objectives in the year, such as the Tour of the Basque Country.”
Sanchez’s doctor has prescribed a steady regimen of ultrasound, stretching, and ice for the joint. They will review the progress after 3 weeks, and decide how best to continue with the treatments.
