Australian Docker wins final stage
Cofidis rider David Moncoutié won the overall classification of the Route du Sud after taking over the lead in yesterday’s time trial. Australian Mitchell Docker won the final stage over 190kilometers from Lavaur to Castres. Moncoutié came home safely in the main pack to keep his ten-second lead over Alexandre Geniez.
Geniez had not given up the fight for the overall, putting pressure on Moncoutié early on. But Moncoutié stayed calm and used his experience to hold back the 21-year-old compatriot. Later, a ten-man move formed which included Docker, who was ordered to be there by his team in protection of Geniez’s second place.
Docker was able to save some energy while sitting in the group and pulled off his second win of the season. He beat Sébastien Duret (Bretagne-Schuller) and Johan Mombaerts (Big Mat – Auber 93), giving Skil Shimano the 11th win of the season..
