Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin was questioned by the Italian Olympic Committee’s (CONI) anti-doping prosecutor today after being stripped of his Olympic silver medal from the 2008 Beijing Games.
The hearing took place in Rome at Olympic stadium. Afterwards Rebellin’s lawyer, Federico Cecconi, confirmed that the CONI proceedings against Rebellin would be suspended until after the ruling by the Court of Arbitration in Sport (CAS).
In December Rebellin appealed the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision last year that forced him to return his Olympic medal. The IOC’s decision was taken after the cyclist was confirmed to have a positive doping control for the banned substance CERA. He was one of five athletes who tested positive for the blood-boosting drug during retroactive testing of the Beijing blood samples.
