RadioShack’s Lance Armstrong is likely to continue racing his bike beyond the 2010 season, according to Belgian paper La Derniere Heure. The seven-time Tour de France winner was expected to retire from professional cycling after this year, but a contact within the RadioShack organization said that an abbreviated schedule on the road for the 2011 season is a possibility.
Armstrong has stated that he would focus on Ironman events following his second retirement from cycling, but the paper suggests that the American will continue to participate in select road cycling events, and specifically points out that a ride in the Tour de France next year isn’t in the cards.
The RadioShack captain came back to the sport after a three-year retirement and, while he put in some impressive performances and the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France last year, the 38 year old hasn’t managed to secure a victory since his return. His next major race is the Tour of California which starts on the 16th of May, but he is also likely to make an appearance at the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico for the second year running.
If Armstrong is to continue racing on the road next year he will likely hold off on an official announcement until it’s later in the season.
