Rider shaken, but able to continue training

Peter StetinaGarmin Barracuda rider Peter Stetina had a bad scare this morning when he was hit by a car while training with his team in Herning, venue for tomorrow’s start of the Giro d’Italia.

The Boulder, Colorado rider was knocked from his bike by the car, which left the scene. The registration plate number was noted and police are at hand.

Stetina’s Cervelo P4 time trial bike took the brunt of the impact, with his rear wheel being badly damaged. The rider was able to stand up and walk around afterwards then, after some time to compose himself, to continue his ride.

“He seems okay, he is training now so that’s a good sign,” Garmin Barracuda PR Marya Pongrace told VeloNation. “His bike didn’t break, but the rear wheel did.”

The 24 year old made his Grand Tour debut last year, finishing a very respectable 21st in the Giro. His best result this year is fifteenth overall in the Volta a Catalunya.
