According to his local Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia, 2006 Tour de France winner Oscar Pereiro was required to provide a sample for the anti-doping inspectors from the International Cycling Union (UCI) in a local restaurant.
Pereiro was having dinner with friends in his hometown of Santiago de Compostela when the UCI inspectors arrived at his home for a surprise control. According to his whereabouts information, Periero is available “From seven to eight in my own home,” he said. As he wasn’t there the inspectors simply came to find him at the restaurant.
The Caisse d’Epargne rider, who is linked to possible moves to Footon-Servetto and Quick Step, refused the offer to relocate to a hotel “as I was not obliged to do so and was with my friends,” he said. Instead it was agreed to give the required samples on the restaurant premises.
Unfortunately, the toilet facilities were too small for the operation to be performed in the inspectors’ presence, so Pereiro finally gave his samples in the corridor, to the surprise of the other diners.
