68-year-old Belgian passes away suddenly while at work in team’s service course
Omega Pharma-Lotto mechanic Freddy Heydens has died unexpectedly, the team has announced. The 68-year-old Belgian was at work in the team’s Service Course in Waregem, Belgium, when he suddenly collapsed; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Riders, colleagues and sponsors of the Omega Pharma-Lotto team are naturally devastated by this loss and offer their deepest sympathies to his wife, family and friends,” reads the statement from the team’s general manager Geert Coeman.
