Cyclocross riders Sven Nys and Sven Vanthourenhout had cash and laptops stolen from their hotel rooms in Mallorca, where they were staying prior to this weekend’s World Cup race in Igorre, Spain.

“When they were downstairs having a drink in the bar at around 10pm Friday, the thieves struck,” says Nys’ wife Isabelle Nijs. “They took laptops and money. The laptops had several years of training data. It is annoying that Sven has lost this, but he can put things into perspective.”

Luckily, both riders will still be able to compete in Sunday’s race as vital travel documents were not taken: “The thieves were of good will, if you can say that,” Nijs said. “They left the plane tickets and passports. So Sven and Sven could fly to Igorre this morning.”

“Sven is not affected too much by this,” she concluded. “This incident will not affect his performance in any way on Sunday.”
