The route for the 2010 Milano Sanremo will stay the same as in the previous two years, the organizers announced Friday, according to rtbf.be. The race will take place on Saturday, March 20, 2010, over 298 kilometers.

The climb of le Mànie (mania) was initially put in two years ago due to a landslide, which affected the original route. Coming just before the three capi, with 100km left to go, the organizers liked the idea and stuck with it in 2009 and now 2010.

The finish is also the same as in the last couple of years and differs from the traditional end on the Via Roma. It is one kilometer further from the end of the Poggio – the final climb of the day – in close proximity to the sea.

The additional 1000 meters from the finish of the Poggio theoretically make it harder for a breakaway rider to stay away. In reality, the twisting road in the final kilometer allowed Fabian Cancellara to ride away solo from his competitors in 2008.

Heinrich Haussler almost managed the same in 2009, but was narrowly beaten in quite an extraordinary Milano-Sanremo finish by Mark Cavendish.
