Pat McQuaid has been nominated to become a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). McQuaid currently serves as the president for the International Cycling Union (UCI).
The Irishman is one of six candidates, according to HLN.be. The nomination is only a formality. The voting will take place this winter at the IOC congress in Vancouver, during the Olympic Winter Games.
Other candidates include Prince Feisal of Jordan, Chinese short tracker Yang Yang, Barry Maister, Secretary General of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, Spanish head of the International Triathlon Union Maria Casada Estupinan and Dagmawit Girmay Berhane, a member National Olympic committee of Ethiopia.
McQuaid has worked together with the IOC on the reduction of the track programme for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
