According to his manager Martijn Berkhout, Dutchman Martijn Maaskant will replace Irishman Daniel Martin in the Garmin-Slipstream Tour de France line-up.
The 22-year-old is suffering from tendonitis in his knee, and a Tour start is likely to only complicate matters.
Martin was set to ride the Tour for the first time, and would have been joining his cousin Nicolas Roche from team AG2r La Mondiale in their maiden tour.
Maaskant left for Monaco Wednesday in order to make the Thursday medical check. The Tour starts Saturday. This will be the second time the 25-year-old has participated in the Tour de France. He finished 134th in last year’s race that was won by Spaniard Carlos Sastre.
