Spaniard’s season extends a little longer; will meet Rabobank teammates this week
Luis León Sánchez formed part of the track pursuit team of Murcia to take yet another win in the 2010 season. The Murcia team beat the team of Catalunya on Sunday on the island of Mallorca. Sánchez took the National team pursuit title together with Eloy Teruel, Pablo Aitor Bernal, and Rubén Fernández.
Despite a long season, Sánchez was happy to step in when his help was needed. “When the Murcian Federation asked me to participate, I immediately accepted their proposal,” the Spaniard said. “While it has been many years since I raced on the track, I liked the idea.”
His season was really supposed to be over by now. “I know that my participation surprised a lot of people, but it was also a way to thank the Murcian Federation for its unconditional support since I became a cyclist.”
The event took place on the Palma Arena track in Palma de Mallorca. “I had a great time on the track this weekend, where I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It also went really well, with winning this title. I have to congratulate my three teammates, who put their confidence in me.”
Sánchez now has another obligation before taking a well-deserved break. He will travel to the Netherlands this week to have a first get-together with his new Rabobank team. “We will only meet one day, on October 20. This reunion will be very important for me, as it is the first opportunity to meet all my new teammates and all the staff working for the Dutch team.”
