Seeking to sign and develop a rider who placed fourth in the 2005 world road championships in Madrid, the Radioshack team is reportedly interested in sealing a deal with Marcus Ljungqvist.
According to Feltet.dk, the American squad is making the third approach to a Saxo Bank rider, following unsuccessful moves to get Andy Schleck and then Kurt Asle Arvesen on board.
Ljungqvist previously raced with Liquigas but in 2006 moved to CSC, the fore-runner of Bjarne Riis’ Saxo Bank team.
He confirmed the news in recent days, and may make a decision this week. “I can say that I have an offer available from them…I have two offers to consider, and shall take a decision after the World Championships,” he said prior to the weekend.
“It is flattering to be offered. It looks fine on paper but I do not know what races I should do, “said the Swede, who has been offered a one-year deal by Radioshack.
He had been considering retirement and taking up a different role in cycling. Ljungqvist is 34 years of age, and won a stage of Paris-Correze in 2006.
