Sebastian Lang wants to participate in his first ever Giro d’Italia in the coming season. The seasoned Silence-Lotto rider has already participated in the Tour de France five times and he also finished the Vuelta a España in 2008.
His first big goal comes earlier in the season than ususal. “I hope I can ride the Giro,” he said on muax.de. “I am currently scheduled to ride it. I want to prepare the Giro well with good training in January and February and I hope to perform well in Italy.”
Lang is halfway through his two-year contract with Silence-Lotto. The team is currently doing a training camp in southern Spain.
Lang is a valuable team helper in Grand Tours and does very well in time trials.He was riding for Gerolsteiner from his start as a pro in 2002 until 2008. When the team folded he was picked up by Silence-Lotto.
His biggest successes were his wins in the 3-Länder-Tour/Hessen Rundfahrt in 2004 and 2006. I 2006 he also won the mountains classification in the Deutschlandtour and became the national time trial champion of Germany. Earlier in his career he won the Post Danmark Rundt (2003). When the World Championships were held in Stuttgart, in his native Germany, in 2007, he finished fifth in the time trial.
