Belgian track cyclist Iljo Keisse is now a free man following his acquittal from doping charges this morning. His former team, Topsport Vlaanderen, immediately kicked him out the door as soon as they heard of his positive test, “We did the right thing at the time” replied manager Christophe Sercu. “We couldn’t do anything else” he said defensively. “Those are the standard procedures.”

Whether Keisse will make his return with the Belgian Pro-continental team is still up for question, but Secru provided some insight into the matter. “I’m obviously happy for Iljo Keisse he was acquitted and now finally there is clarity in the whole affair. Going back to his resignation is another question.”

“We can already start considering this matter with the sponsors. If everyone is positive about the return of Iljo Keisse then we will contact the rider in question, but I cannot yet anticipate this. The fact is that we did the right thing at the time. Especially with the information we got from the Belgian Cycling Union.”

Keisse is currently racing at the Six-days of Grenoble, France. Until today he had been charged with using cathine and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) as a masking agent for doping.
