Danish rider barely in contact with team management

Following yet another dominant performance at the Post Danmark Rundt, Jakob Fuglsang disappeared from the radar, and not of his own volition.

The Danish talent announced his intentions to leave the Saxo Bank team at the end of the season, and since then, has been cast adrift according to the rider.

“It’s very minimal what I’ve heard from the team, since it came out that I will change teams at the end of the season,” said the all around threat in a conversation with Feltet.dk.

The unrest between rider and team began even before the Tour de France though when Bjarne Riis and Kim Andersen parted ways, after Andersen’s new Team Luxembourg project began to lift off. Fuglsang noted a distinct change in the climate between management and himself to such an extent that he wonders if they even care what he does.

“I am somewhat in doubt whether they are interested in my results, or if I am on my own.”

Just a couple days after taking a hard look at where he stood within the Saxo Bank team, Fuglsang let his legs do some talking at North America’s first ever ProTour event in Quebec City.

Fuglsang made the long break of the day and gobbled up enough king of the mountains points along the way to take the prize at the end of the day. Once his break was absorbed, teammate and fellow Dane, Matti Breschel, immediately went on the attack with an elite group of riders including Damiano Cunego, Ryder Hesjedal, and Fabian Wegmann. The group didn’t quite go the distance, but the two exiting motors from Denmark made their presence known in a big way.

Certainly, Fuglsang’s comments only show one side of the story, but whether they’re 100% accurate or not, it’s clear that Fuglsang hasn’t given up on his 2010 season just yet. Expect to see a lot more in the final month of the season from both Fuglsang and his close friend and embattled Saxo teammate, Andy Schleck.
