US rider Chris Horner’s team announced Tuesday that he has pulled out of the Tour of Spain later this month after breaking his collarbone.

The 36-year-old Astana rider was injured while competing at the Tour of Elk Grove that takes place in the suburbs of Chicago.

This would have been the riders third Tour of Spain.

Horner is fortunate to have already singed on for another year with Astana, so missing a chance to shine in the Tour de France because of organizers and now the Vuelta is not as bad as it could have been. It appears as if both Credit Agricole and Gerolsteiner will be folding at the end of the season, making it more difficult for riders to secure a contract.
