German rider Andre Greipel of Team Columbia won the wet second stage of the Eneco Tour. The German’s sprint proved to be too much for CSC’s JJ Haedo and Gerolsteiner’s Robert Förster.
For the first 50km of the race the pace was too high for a group to get away. As soon as the pace dropped 5 riders broke free Matthe Pronk, German Artur Gajek, Italian Ermanno Capelli, Spaniard Javier Lorente Aramendia, and Frenchman David Deroo.
With 9 km to go the sprinters teams had brought the 5 breakaways back, and started to get organized for a bunch sprint. The train of Team Columbia proved to be too strong for the rest and brought Greipel into perfect position for the win. “We had the best train and we are very pleased with this victory,” Greipel said on the Eneco Tour website.
