Robert Gesink may only be 23 years of age but he already has a hill named after him. Today, the Robert Gesinkbult was revealed in Aalten, the Netherlands.
Gesink, accompanied by girlfriend Daisy, uncovered the sign himself. The hill runs from the gas station to the water tower. Gesink is quite proud of it. “During Olympia’s Tour the climb was named like that, but that it is now permanently named after me is really very nice,” Gesink said to De Gelderlander.
An banner marks the beginning of the climb, so it’s hard to miss. Even an official street sign was put in place for the popular Dutchman.
Many fans showed up, including quite a few kids on bicycles, to celebrate the event. There were also celebrities in attendance, such as Rabobank’s director Harold Knebel or former racer Tristan Hoffmann (now a directeur sportif for Team Columbia-HTC).
