in reply to: We lost one #36733
sorry to hear this, thinline….continued hopes that everyone we know and love stays healthy/
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36416Yeah, that was why I had not donated them to a local hospital yet, but there was direct need for you guys, so I wanted to offer them up.
Stay safe, my friend!
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36413Officially official….Tour now happening Aug. 29- Sep. 20.
Guess that blows the report above re: all 3 tours out of the water.
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36411Dale, I found 3 N95 masks in my tool chest last week. I am happy to send them to you, if you want.
Lemme know.
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36407This came up in my Twitter feed today and hits on some of the points lsd raised. Good food for thought….(and if you are on the Twitters, Ian Bremmer is a really good follow. Logical, non-partisan takes on the global economy, healthcare and national security)

in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36406The economic impact (both financial and personal) is brutal, there is no doubt. I still can’t believe there has not been an effort to freeze mortgage and rent payments for at least 3 months.
That said, the economy will bounce back…eventually. People who die won’t. I’d rather see a prolonged period of social distancing, with gradual relaxing of people going back to work, then simply “opening the economy back up”.
But to your point, there is a balancing act because a longer term economic impact has definite, negative health impacts on a great many people.
But there is simply no way you can open restaurants, bars, etc for months….and likely not until well in 2021.
Since Mrs. CK is high-risk, I will be social distancing / isolating for a long time. I figure I’ll have to start going back into my office in June, but I will be wearing masks / gloves and staying the fook away from everyone.
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36404Personally, I think all sporting events (and concerts, etc) need to be cancelled through the summer, if not the fall, too.
Until there is a vaccine, any large gathering is a game of Roulette….with added bullets in the chamber.
in reply to: New dates for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta #36396Per Race Radio….. Marca reporting that ASO and RCS have come to an agreement on dates. Tour de France will be held from August 2 to 25, Vuelta in September and the Giro in October. All races will remain 3 weeks. Of course this all depends on how the Coronavirus crisis develops.
in reply to: New components for my road bike!! #36668Bummer about the Diverge, OC…..I had just looked at your Strava post recently with it and thought “Damn nice bike there!”.
As for the FSA WE stuff……had it on for a couple of weeks now, but only one or two proper outdoor rides. But overall, I am pretty happy with it. The main reason I got it was because the Ultegra Mechanical / Hydro shifters I had on the Canyon were just sooooo big. They were comfortable, but just big (and ugly).
New brifters are super-comfy. The transition from my new Vision Metron bars to the levers is excellent and the flat tops of the bars make for a great perch.
Was a bit of an adventure finding bars that would work, however….the brifters would not fit my existing integrated Canyon bars (which were likely knock-offs, having been bought directly from a factory in China). So I bought a pair of the Vision integrated bars, only to find out that they were 1 1/8″ and my steerer was 1 1/4″ (I had received assurances that the Visions were 1 1/4″ with an adapter down to 1 1/8″…..not so much).
So I got the Vision Metron 4D bars and used a Zipp stem I had bought for the bike when I first received the bike almost 2 years ago.
Shifting on the WE is acceptable….from shifts are little long, but rear shifts quickly. Occasionally plagued by a non-shift, followed by a double-shift, but meh, whatever….
Braking is excellent….smooth lever stroke and great modulation.
Losing the shift cables up from helped clear up the front of the bike as well. (WE is wireless from the shifters to the battery, but wired from the battery to the derailleurs)
Pics of the stuff can be found below (along with yours truly! )
in reply to: Social distancing TT event #36742Great idea….and donate the $10 anyway.
Hope everyone is doing well.
in reply to: cleaning the chain #36612Sonic cleaning is not a major pain if you happen to have the gear or know a guy. And it really works, but frankly is overkill on bicycle parts.
There is nothing better than showing up on a group ride with a sparkling, silver drivetrain that is completely silent when pedaling. That alone means it is not “overkill”.
in reply to: John Prine #36750But I’ve heard his song Angel From Montgomery sung by two women. Susan Tedeschi’s take brings tears to my eyes.
Word.
in reply to: cleaning the chain #36607CK, if Smokey’s OP was posted tomorrow, you might understand it better.
Oh, goddamnit….I knew I had seen that article before!!
in reply to: cleaning the chain #366033-in-1 will work, but it isn’t the best choice….as noted it attracts dirt and isn’t the most efficient lube out there.
A clean, well lubed drivetrain with a high performance lube will save you watts….
