Former Italian professional cyclist Luca Gelfi was found dead in his bicycle shop today. Media reported that the 42-year-old was suffering from depression and had likely committed suicide.

Gelfi’s career began in 1988 with team Del Tongo-Colnago and ended in 1998 with the Ros Mary-Amica Chips squad. His best year as a professional was with team Del Tongo in 1990 where he won two stages of the Giro d’Italia.

He is survived by his wife Stefania and 5-year-old son Thomas.
