Alberto Contador (Astana) has won the Amstel Curaçao Race for the second time. The two-time Tour de France champion escaped just before the finish line at the Lions Dive & Beach Resort. Tour de France sprint champion, Thor Hushovd (Cervélo TestTeam), claimed second while Dutch National champion Koos Moerenhout (Rabobank) finished third.

The race was briefly delayed after rain showers threatened to ruin the show. The decisive move was made by Moerenhout during the closing kilometers of the race with an attack on the climb up the Julianabrug. Only Contador and Hushovd could follow, with Contador taking his second win in the event after also winning on the Caribbean island back in 2007.
