Team Columbia heads to the 2009 Giro d’Italia with their eye on unleashing the sprint power of team leader Mark Cavendish. After taking home two stage wins in last years race, he will look to better his performance this time around.
The 23-year-old won an incredible four stages in the Tour de France last year and hasn’t looked back, taking his first classic victory in this years Milan-Sanremo as part of his eight win tally so far this season.
He will have Mark Renshaw from Australia to help with his leadouts, as well as this year’s Gent- Wevelgem winner Edvald Boasson Hagen from Norway.
Australian Michael Rogers and Canadian Michael Barry will look out for the teams’ general classification interests, while former wearer of the pink jersey, Italian Marco Pinotti and Sweden’s Thomas Lovkvist will round out the squad.
