Day two of the GP Costa Etrusca saw win number two for Cervélo TestTeam. This time it was Sarah Düster coming through for the win beating Emma Johansson (Red Sun Cycling) and Noemi Cantele (Bigla Cycling Team).

Manel Lacambra, team Sports Director, commented, “From the beginning we controlled the race because we didn’t want any attacks. At 40 km, we attacked with Kirsten Wild because we wanted to spare our climbers for the big climbs at the end of the race. Kristen stayed away and got a maximum gap of 3 minutes and 40 seconds.

“She still had a 40 second gap 2 km before the finish line but it was at this point that it became really hard and we we knew that she couldn’t maintain the gap.

“So we decided to attack with Sarah Düster with Sarah catching Kirsten and both trying to go together to the finish line. But Kirsten was too tired and Sarah broke for the finish alone and won the race solo.

“The bunch sprint caught up Kristen with just 100 m to go before the finish line.”
