Italian Daniele Bennati has extended his contract with Liquigas through the 2010 season. The 28-year-old sprinter made the switch to Liquigas at the end of 2007 from Lampre.
In 2008 Bennati made the aquisition pay off for his new team by winning the best sprinter competition and three stages in the Giro d’Italia, a stage in the Tour of Romandie, the Tour of Spain, and the Tour of Benelux, and winning Italy’s fall semi-classic the Giro di Piemonte.
“Daniele is an excellent rider and we are very happy to reach an agreement in such a short time,” said Liquigas team manager Roberto Amadio.
Bennati was clearly happy with the arrangement. “I am proud to continue wearing the Liquigas jersey. The team is one of the best in the world and the best in Italy,” said the Tuscan of his contract extension.
His first race in 2009 will be the Mallorca Challenge.
