The Australian track team continued their success in Copenhagen, Denmark, overcoming the loss of a man late in the race to secure gold in the men’s team pursuit ahead of rival Britain. New Zealand put in a dominating performance to beat hosts Denmark and take home the bronze.
The fastest time, 3 minutes 56.869 seconds, was set in the qualifying round by Britain’s team of Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Ben Swift and Andy Tennant, giving them a mental edge going into the final.
But when the title was on the line the Australian team of Jack Bobridge, Rohan Dennis, Michael Hepburn and Cameron Meyer came through, with the Brits team unable to battle back despite their opponent being down a man.
The winning time was 3 minutes 55.654 seconds, just two tenths in front of the Olympic Champions and world record holders.
