No interest in remaining on as a domestique with BMC Racing
After a fifteen year pro career and ten seasons with the Phonak/BMC racing team, 2002 Swiss champion Alexandre Moos has decided to hang up his wheels.
The 37 year old has taken some strong results in that time, including a stage of the Tour de Suisse and one in the Tour de Romandie, as well as four top-ten overall finishes in the latter. He feels he could have continued for longer, but wants to go out on his own terms.
“The team [BMC] has become too big for me,” he said, according to Cyclismactu. “I could have been content to just be the team-mate of Cadel Evans. But it’s a role I had enough of in the past,” he said, reflecting on his time as a domestique to others.
“Unlike other cyclists, I had the chance to decide when I stopped. I was not forced.”
The Swiss rider won’t be a member of the international road peloton next year, but he plans to keep in shape. He’s set himself a new goal, namely racing mountainbike marathons.
