Success of Pauwels, Vantornout helps bring long-term deal with sponsors

Sunweb RevorKevin Pauwels sealed the overall victory in the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup last week in his first season with Sunweb-Revor. In the past week, both sponsors have to re-upped their contracts with the team.

Both Sunweb Holidays and Revor Bedding will now sponsor the cyclo-cross team through at least the year 2015.

“The excellent performance of Kevin Pauwels brought offers from several potential sponsors in recent weeks, but I’ve always known I wanted to continue with Sunweb Holidays,” team manager Jurgen Mettepenningen said earlier this week. “We have started this great project together and we want to finish it together.”

Along with his win in the World Cup, Pauwels currently sits at the top of the GvA Trophy standings, as well as second in the Superprestige series. Both series have two races remaining.

Pauwels’ team-mate Klaas Vantornout has also enjoyed a superb season. The Belgian finished fourth in the World Cup and is currently sixth in the Superprestige.

Judging the excellent seasons of their leaders and the contract extension of its co-sponsor, Revor Bedding inked its new deal with the team this week.

“Thanks to Jan Maes of Revor for this sign of trust and appreciation,” Mettepenningen said. “Obviously I am very pleased that less than a week after our first title sponsor re-signed, Revor extends also. Our budget is guaranteed to the end of 2015, the same length that Kevin Pauwels is under contract.”

“We were very pleased again this year as a sponsor of Sunweb-Revor, and we would like to continue the trend,” said Maes, Revor’s CEO. “That is why we had our current contract with the team terminated and signed a new one to extend to 2015. The professional approach of Jurgen Mettepenningen and his team accelerated our decision.

“We look forward to the coming year, and the growth of Sunweb-Revor is proportional to the growth of Revor Bedding. So we are a happy business.”
